Description of events:
Starting from 1:30pm, participants were arriving and taking their photos respectively, few local policemen questioning them but didn’t stop them or dispersed them. At 2pm sharp, with another group gathered underneath the platform joining the crowd at the platform, the crown reached about 150 and the police also grown to about 20, the group photo session commenced.
The photo session under tight police observation took about 5 minutes. In view of the local sensitivity reasons, the crowd was extremely self-disciplined, started from only Malaysia national flags and without any banner or slogan-chanting. The police also act professionally and allowed the short photo session for the group.
The crowd then displayed the Bersih logos & banners for photo session but being asked by the police to dismiss. The crowd followed the instruction to dismiss and took a “rest” in a cafe underneath the platform, and gradually dispersed under police observation.
Due to the “pressure from Malaysia via Chinese authority”, Beijing & Suzhou’s Bersih official indoor events had been called-off on the eve of the event, the Shanghai’s official outdoor event was a miracle to successfully held.
The number of participants (some didn’t join the photo session) of 150+ was also far exceeded the expectation, showing high level of awareness among the Malaysians residing in Shanghai & nearby cities.
