Les citoyens malaisiens de France lancent un appel à la solidarité avec les manifestants de Kuala Lumpur qui se
réuniront le 28 avril en faveur d’élections libres et justes en Malaisie, au sein de la campagne BERSIH.
BERSIH est une campagne non partisane, soutenue par plus de 60 ONG malaisiennes, issue de la société
civile. Elle demande une réforme électorale immédiate axée en 8 points:

1. La validité des listes électorales
2. La réforme du vote par correspondance
3. L’utilisation de l’encre indélébile
4. Une période de campagne de 21 jours au minimum
5. Un accès libre et équitable aux médias
6. Le renforcement des institutions publiques
7. L’arrêt de la corruption
8. L’arrêt d’une politique de caniveau

100 000 personnes sont attendues dans les rues de Kuala Lumpur et d’autres villes malaisiennes. Des
manifestations de soutien sont organisées dans plus de 40 villes à travers le monde**, toutes organisées
par des citoyens en leur nom propre. Celles-ci revendiquent également un neuvième point de reforme : le droit de
vote pour les citoyens malaisiens résidant à l’étranger.

En 2007 et encore en 2011, 50 000 personnes se sont rassemblées pour de précédentes manifestations,
totalement pacifiques, hormis « l’évacuation » des manifestants par la police à coups de gaz lacrymogènes et de
canons à eau. En 2011, près de 2000 personnes ont été arrêtées en connexion avec BERSIH, y compris pour “port de
T-shirt jaune”, les couleurs de BERSIH.

La campagne BERSIH vise également à sensibiliser les citoyens du monde entier à la nécessité d’organiser des
élections libres et justes en Malaisie, alors que les élections nationales devraient avoir lieu cette année ou au début de
l’année prochaine.

Ce rassemblement est parrainé par la Fédération Internationale des Droits de l’Homme (FIDH). Il sera
précédé par un pique-nique convivial aux Jardins du Trocadéro à partir de midi. Tous ceux qui souhaitent participer
au rassemblement et/ou ou au pique-nique sont les bienvenus. La tenue jaune est encouragée !

Malaysian citizens in France call for a show of solidarity with participants in the BERSIH* campaign in Kuala
Lumpur who will be gathering on the 28th of April in support of free and fair elections in Malaysia.
BERSIH is a non-partisan, civil society campaign endorsed by over 60 Malaysian NGOs calling for
immediate electoral reform in eight main areas:

1. Clean the electoral roll
2. Reform postal ballot
3. Use of indelible ink
4. Minimum 21 days campaign period
5. Free and fair access to media
6. Strengthen public institutions
7. Stop corruption
8. Stop dirty politics

100 000 people are expected on the streets of Kuala Lumpur and of other Malaysian cities. Events in
support of BERSIH will place in more than 40 cities around the world**, all organized by citizens in their
own names. These also call for a ninth point of electoral reform: suffrage for Malaysians residing abroad.

In 2007 and again in 2011, 50,000 people attended previous gatherings in Kuala Lumpur, which proceeded
peacefully except for the ‘dispersion’ of participants by the police using tear gas and water cannons. In 2011, almost
2000 people were arrested in connection with BERSIH including for ‘wearing yellow T-shirts’, yellow being the BERSIH
colour.

The BERSIH campaign also aims to raise general awareness about the need for free and fair elections in
Malaysia especially in view of the fact that national elections will be held later this year or early next year.

In Paris, the gathering will be held
on Saturday, the 28th of April 2012, 3-5pm
at the Place du Trocadéro, 75016 Paris
Metro: Trocadéro (lines 6 and 9)

This gathering is co-sponsored by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH). It will be preceded
by a potluck picnic in the Jardins du Trocadéro starting at noon. Participants are encouraged to wear yellow and to
bring a dish (halal if possible) to share at the picnic.
